Peter Evans (b. 1979) is a multidisciplinary artist and songwriter from London based in Brazil.
Evans’ practice began with collage and evolved through collecting, photography, and painting before returning to abstraction through collaged paintings. Working with reclaimed canvas, found materials, oil, acrylic, charcoal and pencil he creates layered surfaces rich with history and process.
Made directly on his studio floor, the works balance collage, gesture, and colour within structured compositions. The subject matter shifts between complete abstraction and symbols drawn from his surroundings, creating a visual language that is both personal and open-ended. Exploring the tension between rawness and order, Evans combines reclaimed fragments, bold colour fields, and instinctive forms to create paintings that feel both spontaneous and considered.
Evans graduated from the MA Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Art in 2016, where he received the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship Award. He has exhibited in shows at Saatchi and Delphian Galleries in London, Mana Contemporary in New York and En Face in Paris. A self-published book Thinking of You, Post cards:1948-2015 was included in the Tate Library & Archive collection in 2017 and in 2019 he was in residence at Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy. In 2019 Evans moved to Brazil, where he lives and works from a ranch just outside of Rio de Janeiro.
